Summary
Chapter 9 opens with an item on the to-do list. This one reads, “Think about aliens in big fancy houses (and posers).” With no track practice, Patina is free to go directly to Becca's house with the others. Because of the heavy rain, Emily drives all four girls there. Emily allows Maddy to sit in the front with Patina since they are literally driving just across the street, but she makes all the girls buckle up. Maddy, chattering as usual, asks questions. She asks if they all have mothers. Though Emily tells her to stop, Taylor answers that “of course” they have mothers. Patina admits to being “stung” by the response because not everyone has all the things some – like Taylor – take for granted.
