Summary
The protagonist returns to work the day after Bernie’s funeral, as he cannot afford not to. He feels sad and distraught, and the patrons are unhappy with his performance. He receives a poor rating from a large group of women. Mr. Frendt tells the protagonist to take a few days off to recover emotionally. The protagonist says that he cannot afford to do so, but Mr. Frendt insists, as he does not want to have a mediocre work performance from the protagonist.
When the protagonist arrives home, he finds Bernie, undead, sitting in the apartment. Jade and Min are sitting too, terrified. Bernie appears quite angry, which is unlike her.
