Summary
The story opens at a restaurant called Joysticks, where the protagonist works as a waiter. The waiters at Joysticks are requited to dress in an eroticized air pilot uniform in order to titillate the mostly female clientele. The customers also rate the waiters based on their attractiveness, and if the waiters fall below a certain average rating, they are fired. At the beginning of the story, Mr. Frendt, the protagonist’s boss, fires two employees for this reason.
After work, the protagonist returns home, to his apartment at the Sea Oak apartment complex. He lives with several family members, such as his sister Min and his cousin Jade. He finds Min and Jade watching television and arguing. Min has a baby named Troy, and Jade has a baby named Mac. Also living with them is Aunt Bernie, who works at a drugstore...
