Chapters 17 & 18 Summary
Yin, China: 1046 BCE. Luce is still thinking about the glory of Daniel's soul as she exits from her Announcer into a vast bedroom with a young woman crying in the corner. The girl - Lu Xin (Luce's past self) - is standing over a dead man's body. Lu Xin doesn't ask Luce any questions, but demands that Luce help her hide the body, the body of the king. Lu Xin claims that the king - to whom she was betrothed - killed himself when he found out that Lu Xin loved another man, De (Daniel's past self). De was part of an uprising set to overthrow the king, and a revolutionary war was underway. As Luce and Lu Xin hide the king's body, Luce reaches over and embraces Lu Xin, cleaving their souls. No sooner has she done this, than the king's guard...
