Chapters 13 & 14 Summary
London, England: 1613. Luce leaps out of her Announcer into the busy London streets outside the Globe Theatre. She quickly realizes that it is the opening night of one of William Shakespeare's plays, and that she and past-Daniel are players. In this lifetime, Luce, who was a good friend of Shakespeare, managed to convince the playwright to let her act in this performance even though she is female, in a time when all actors were male. Luce hides out in the wardrobe closet and awaits past-Daniel, who is changing in the tiring-room. When past-Daniel opens the wardrobe door, he is pleased and surprised to see Luce. When Luce leans in to kiss him, past-Daniel leans back, almost confused. "Lady," he says. "Would I be too bold to say your love makes you unmannerly?" (Page 244). Luce is shocked by this rebuff.
