Relationships
One of the primary themes running through the novel is relationships. The novel reveals that even the individuals that make up a family have different relationships among the family members. For example, Mia and her father, and Mia and her mother, have a closer relationship than Mia has with her grandmother. Even Mia's father seems to have a troubled relationship with Grandmere.
Friendship is another type of relationship the novel tackles. Mia has very close friends—friends she had before she found out that she is a princess. Some of her friends, namely Lilly, have a hard time dealing with the fact that she is a member of a royal family. Eventually, Mia's friends learn to treat her the same that they have always treated her.
Romantic relationships are also tackled in the novel. Mia has her first true love and romantic relationship with Michael. Mia, however...
