In French class, Shameeka tells Mia she heard about the budget thing from the treasurer. Mia says they are trying to keep it a secret, but then another student asks Mia about it. the same student mentions hearing about the literary magazine and that at an old school they sold scented candles.

At lunch, Lilly's boyfriend, Boris Pelkowksi tells Mia that hears they're broke. Mia yells at her entire table to stop talking about it because it's supposed to be a secret. Perin, the girl who mentioned it in French class, points out the kid that inspired Mia to write the short story she sent in to Sixteen. He's picking the corn out of his chili again. He's a loner and Mia mentions inviting him to sit with them...
