Cake
Cake symbolizes Max’s feelings for Olivia and their relationship. Whenever he sends one to her, he is professing his love in a different way. At the beginning of the novel, he gives her a cake to express his interest. Toward the end of the novel, he sends multiple cakes to represent his undying affection and how much he wants to be with her.
