Summary
After a “twenty-two minute” (72) wild moped tour of Paris, Fabien and Nell stop at the Eiffel Tower and look up. Rather than stand on another long line to visit the top of the tower, they decide to go to the Bar Noir, where they meet up with Rene and Emile. There, Fabien watches the way Nell smiles and laughs, observing that Nell is not beautiful in the way Sandrine was beautiful, but he knows there is “something about her face that kept [him] looking” (74). As Fabien is getting a drink, the bartender, Fred, informs him that he has seen Sandrine, who has a new job. Fred also tells him that he is glad that Fabien has moved on, at which point Fabien realizes that Sandrine has found someone else.
