Summary
In “The Diver,” the narrator and her partner made their way through the city after the parade. The streets were blocked off and filled with trash. They finally located the restaurant where they met their new acquaintances Mauro and Julia. They had “coordinated the conference about G” at the museum (99). Mauro got up to take a call from the museum director, who he said was talking to the police about the man who had jumped during the exhibition.
G’s biographer Betsy and G’s former companion David joined the table with her friend David. They were in town for the conference, too. The conversation turned to ambition and personal freedom. Finally, the director joined the party. She was visibly upset, given the man’s suicide at the museum, and told the table the debacle. She reflected on the “violence of what happened...
