Summary
In Chapter 21, Mei Ling feels Siew’s mother’s ghost telling her to get her daughter. Mei Ling picks up Siew, takes her home, and watches as the girl adjusts to her new life. Siew is slightly shy and distant, appearing to be scared that this fortunate change will be short-lived, yet Mei Ling assures it will not be. Mei Ling had been working on a wedding gown for the daughter of the owner of Golden Imports, and takes it with her on her walk to the park with the children. There, she shows it to June and the other Chinese ladies, all of whom fawn over her and tell her they will help her find more clients.
