Summary
In Chapter 11, “Tony,” Tony was anxious about “his annual review” (121). He had been working as “a midlevel position” at Iris Telecom “for three years now” (122). He hoped for a promotion so he could “buy a house” near the town center (123). His family’s conversation about the matter surprised Tony, particularly Tammy’s contributions.
At work, Tony and his colleague Curtis discussed the possibilities of promotion. Curtis was “asking for double” what Tony planned to ask for (126).
In spite of Tony’s positive reviews, his boss Elijah said he would have to wait two years for a promotion. Tony remembered Tammy’s words from the night before and fought for himself. He insisted on a promotion and pay raise. That night, Elijah called to say he had gotten the promotion. Sitting with his daughter, Tony realized how much she meant to him.
