Summary
In Chapter 6, “Oliver,” Oliver took the train to his parents’ house in the Hamptons. Seeing “THE WRIGHT FAMILY stamped” on the mailbox still unsettled him (67). It had been years since they changed their name from Agos to Wright following his grandfather’s arrest. The Hamptons property was the only asset the “the judge had let his family keep” after the scandal and trial (68).
In spite of his reluctance to visit his parents Phillip and Marlene, Oliver was glad to see their “live-in nanny-turned-housekeeper, Daisy” (68). She had raised Oliver and was “the best person” he knew (69).
Since losing their money, wealth, and status in Los Angeles, Phillip and Marlene’s lives had changed. Convicted for embezzling “millions of dollars from his own charity,” Oliver’s grandfather Matthew was serving time at Turpin Creek Correctional Facility (73).
