Chapter Eight Summary

Chapter Eight, Now

Lena wrenches the trapdoor off and it falls with a clatter into the hallway. A guard comes and Lena hides behind the doorway. Once he has entered she slams the door into him and Julian and Lena tie him up. They escape and hide in a supply closet. They find guns and food and DFA badges. They kill two Scavengers in the process. They realize that the group which has kidnapped them are actually not Scavengers but DFA agents.

Chapter Eight, Then

In this brief section, Lena and the Invalids are still heading south. While camping out one evening, Blu falls ill with a fever and Raven carries her into camp. She dies that night. Raven opens up to Lena and tells her how she found Blu left for dead in a shoe box and how she took...
