Summary
In Chapter Seven, Sacco is staying with a Palestinian man named Sameh in the refugee camp Jabalia. The home's power has been cut off and rain leaks through the ceiling. Sameh lives off dwindling savings while volunteering at a rehabilitation clinic for children with disabilities. Sacco spends his days interviewing teachers and the deaf and dumb students. Sameh arranges interviews for him around the refugee camp in the afternoons. Sacco meets many people whose homes have been destroyed by recent rains. Sameh is hospitable and shows Sacco every neighborhood in the camp, which is said to boast the highest population density in the world. Sameh's friends tell Sacco about a protest where the first wave intifada started. A child once was killed by soldiers and protestors turned him into a martyr before the soldiers could make the body disappear. The...
