London
London is Mia's hometown. It is where she met her husband and where their marriage fell apart. She is miserable in London. When she goes back there, it is a personal defeat.
San Francisco
San Francisco is Paul's hometown. He flees the city when he first starts to become famous because he is scared of the attention. Then, he refuses to come back because he says he is too afraid to fly. At the end of the novel, however, he agrees to come back home, which is where he feels he belongs.
Paris
Paris is the most important place in the novel. Mia flees London to hideout in Paris. It is a sort of dreamworld for her, where she can be anyone and anything she wants to be. She takes on a new identity and even joins a dating site, even though she is still married. Paul sees...
