Summary
The gang resents Ada's failed interference during the heist at Sutton's Gulch but still needs her medical skills. One week later, Agnes Rose comes to ask for Ada's advice about putting someone to sleep, not giving her an explanation at first. Together, disguised as husband and wife, they travel to the trading post to obtain some laudanum. The man at the post is Ada's first real encounter with an Indian. Though willing to sell them laudanum, Nótkon wants Agnes Rose to pay dearly for it. Eager for the gang to forgive her rash action, Ada proposes to trade her most precious possession, Mrs. Schaeffer's book, for the laudanum and entices the trader with some of the information it contains. Nótkon is so intrigued that he accepts the trade.
For its next heist, the gang sets its sights on Fiddleback Ranch owned...
