Summary
Ada takes the road hidden among piles of books in the bookseller's wagon; there is now a reward offered in Fairchild for her capture as a witch. Since the sisters have not shared with him the reason for Ada's escape, the bookseller becomes suspicious. She manages to convince him not to betray her. He drops her off in complete wilderness and total darkness. Terrified, she runs and runs until she finally reaches the Hole in the Wall Gang's encampment. At first, the gang is suspicious of Ada and divided as to whether they should include her, but their leader, the Kid, invites her to join them for a drink. Inebriated, she falls asleep until late the next day.
The gang questions Ada about her skills. She seems to have nothing to offer, as she does not know how to shoot guns or ride...
