Part 5, Chapter 33 Summary

Jamie and Claire stay at Lallybroch over the next couple of days as Jenny recuperates. One afternoon as Claire works in the garden and Jenny leans on the fence with the baby, Ian rides up on horseback. It is too early for Jamie and Ian to return, so it alarms the women to see him. The men have encountered the watch. They had taken Ian's wooden leg, his horse and Jamie.

Jenny orders Claire to fix Ian's wounds as quickly as possible, for he has bruises on his face. Her intent is to leave the children with Mrs. Crook and head off with Claire to save Jamie from the English. Claire can't believe her ears, but follows anyway.
