Chapters 19-21 Summary and Analysis
In chapter 19, Shirley flies on a night flight to Peru and is met at the airport by David. David has a car and he tells Shirley they are going into the mountains. They stop part way up for lunch and David makes Shirley breath in pure oxygen for a few minutes in order to keep herself from fainting due to the high altitude. Late in the evening they arrive at Llocllapampa, their destination. Shirley is shocked to find that their hotel is simply two small rooms with no indoor plumbing, and no electricity or heat.
In chapter 20, David takes Shirley down to the mineral springs. The water is effervescent, causing Shirley's limbs to feel as though they are floating as she sits in the warm water. While in the water David tries to get Shirley to meditate, but she...
