Summary
Chapter 28 pens with Melody recounting that they had swimming and art the next day. When they discovered they had an hour until dinner, the girls begged to go do the playground. Melody has “never actually played on a playground” (204). Melody drags out the word “please” and Jocelyn repeats it three times. Athena begins to sing “Girls just wanna have fun,” which convinces the counselors (204). Melody has always been forced to sit on the side and watch others play. This park has swings that accommodate wheelchairs. Karyn is thrilled with the swing and shouts that she has always wanted to swing. After a moment, Melody realizes why kids shout “wheee” on the swings. After all the girls swing, Athena discovers a pink slide.
