Summary
Henry has apparently spread the rumor that Naomi's mother was Italian. During a church potluck, Naomi goes into the woods to avoid talking to anyone. Naomi hates that Beto is trying to hard to gain Henry's attention. Naomi does not want to face the kids at school but knows she will go as a means of getting out of Henry's house. Naomi remembers her mother who had loved to dance. Naomi's braid is like Estelle's. She remembers her mother's first miscarriage after marrying Henry. Henry follows Naomi to the river. He explains that he has changed. He leaves when she does not respond. She knows he is likely to return to his old ways. Naomi is embarrassed that no one ate any of the tortillas she made for the potluck at church. Henry had not warned her in time to make anything else...
