Summary
Chapter 36
In Chapter 36, Evan is upset about how Emma reacted to Jared’s question during the game. He can’t sleep. He lies on the hammock unable to intrude on her in her room. He wants to know what Emma is keeping from him. He believes it has to do with Jonathan. Evan never liked or trusted him. To be able to move forward with Emma, he has to know what has happened so that they can forgive and forget the past.
Emma keeps thinking about Jonathan and his secret. She holds it like her own. She can see the torment in his eyes when he confessed to setting his home on fire killing his family. She understands his hate so could not tell on him. Emma cannot sleep so she goes out to the deck and sees Evan lying on the hammock.
