Summary

Prologue

In the prologue, Sara McKinley is helping Emma Thomas move into her new room. She is sharing a house with her three friends Serena, Meg and Peyton. Sara is spending her sophomore year of college studying in France and has to see Emma before she leaves. Because she does not want to inconvenience her boyfriend with a long distance relationship Sara has broken up with Jared, a decision he is not taking very well.

As Sara helps Emma unpack she comes across a black boot box, which she is attempting to open when Emma stops her by slamming the lid shut. It apparently contains something that Emma does not want anyone to see nor does she want to see it for herself. She asks Sara to put it away and not let her know where she put it. Sara does as Emma...
