Summary
Chapter 9 is a brief look at a police investigation of a crime scene from a police officer’s point of view. It, like the other chapters consisting of research directly or tangentially related to the major events of the novel, is implied to Nick’s writing. In the chapter, the author encourages the reader to imagine being at a crime scene and going through the motions a detective would. The author attempts to get the reader to erase their ego, who they are as an individual, to contain all of the information at the scene without contaminating it with emotion.
