Summary
Chapter 5 is another newspaper article, this time about a house fire that kills the parents of one of the students murdered during the school shooting. Hours after the community vigil to memorialize the victims of the shooting, Caroline Black’s family dies in a fire that destroys their home. They are the only two victims. A neighbor having trouble sleeping due to anguish over the school shooting is the one who called emergency services. There is no indication that the fire was deliberately set though the cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation.
Chapter 6 is a list of objects potentially lost in the fire at Caroline Black’s parents’ house. Though the author of the list is left unspecified, because it is Nick who is responsible for the research for the yearbook, it is presumed to be his list. The...
