Point of View
In terms of narrative point of view, the first point to note is that because this is a play, there is no single narrative voice, no narrator describing what is happening. Instead, the audience comes to understand story, relationship, and meaning as a result of the interactions of the play’s large cast of characters. Within that cast, there is arguably no single character who is the focus of the narrative, no point of view that can be seen as that of a protagonist. There are characters who have more significant journeys of transformation, and more significant amounts of stage time than others. These characters, who might be seen as protagonists, include Liz Morden, Mary Brenham, and Lieutenant Clark.
