Summary

In Chapter 96, Kirsch described the new species he believed would absorb humans as a new kingdom in the classification system. He called this new kingdom Technium, a kingdom that included all of the technology upon which humans had come to depend. Langdon believed the idea that humans would allow technology to take over was improbable. Kirsch argued in his presentation that technology was progressing and could improve the lives of people with handicaps and diseases. He indicated that as technology came to be implanted into our bodies — like in the case of prosthetic limbs controlled by one’s brain — we would soon no longer be able to call ourselves humans but instead a mix of technology and biology.
