Point of View

Orange World is a collection of eight short stories, each with their own distinct mode of narration and point-of-view. “The Prospectors,” “The Tornado Auction,” and “The Gondoliers” are narrated in the first person by the protagonist of the story. Each of these narrators is facing a dangerous, even life-threatening situation, and in each case the narrator gradually informs the reader of their backstory to create a more layered understanding of their plight. In “The Prospectors,” Aubergine explains the history of her friendship with Clara as the two women battle their way out of the haunted Emerald Lodge. In “The Tornado Auction,” the reader comes to understand the truth about Robert Wurman's complicated relationships with his daughters as he reveals the details about their childhoods. In “The Gondoliers,” Janelle shares memories of interactions with her sisters that offer insight into her attraction to the deadspot.
