Summary
Introduction – The narrator and primary author (Sheryl Sandberg) begins the story of her life after the death of her husband, Dave Goldberg, with narration of how their relationship began and developed. She then describes the last trip they took together, to Mexico, 11 years after their wedding. While in Mexico, she and some friends found Dave collapsed in a gym and tried to revive him, but to no avail. Dave was dead. She comments on the depth of her grief; on her struggles to help her children cope with theirs; and on the sometimes empty-seeming condolences of well-meaning friends and family. In that context, she discusses the necessity to keep waking up in the morning and living life, even though it felt (and sometimes still feels) impossible. She also describes the gradual process of the first, devastating grief slowly fading away.
