Summary

Chapter 4, entitled “Thursday,” takes place on the Thursday of Riggle’s suspension. Riggle has a deep sleep due to the arduousness of his work at Broth. Riggle thinks about how, while he was washing the dishes at Broth, he was glad to be there and was glad to be making money. In the morning, Riggle receives text messages from Bennet. Bennet says that, at school, the students have continued to talk about the recent school shootings. President Trump recently made the outlandish suggestion of arming teachers with guns. Riggle briefly considers ideas of religion and personal pain. He then wonders what motivates school shooters to kill people. Riggle then recalls Remote’s Thursday story. A wave of thirst overtook the world. Remote spoke to a woman named Jupiter, who had magical powers. She sent down rain to quench people’s thirst, but the thirst...
