Summary
Chapter 16: One of the negatives of summer is the tendency to slow down too much “when you haven't eaten enough or eaten too much, dehydrated or had one too many” (90). Unplanned naps become the norm despite the desire to interact with friends. The photographer and dancer find a new level of intimacy in spending time without specific plans. Late one Sunday night, with only hours before the photographer is supposed to be at work, they go to bed together. He initiates sex and she agrees. She stops him once, asking if he is certain. The narrator notes that the photographer did not intend for this to happen, “but it's better this way” (92).
