Chapter 18 Summary
As Julius is walking home from work, two African-American teenagers walk by him on the street. They acknowledge him with nods of their head. A few minutes later, he sees the teens approaching him again. Suddenly, someone strikes him from behind. He realizes it's the two boys and a friend that has joined them. They beat him and steal his wallet and cell phone. Nobody is around and nobody helps Julius. Julius eventually gets up, walks home and lf up.
Two weeks after his mugging, Julius is in a diner. He watches as a blonde American student teaches an Asian girl Chinese. Julius's wounds have healed, except the pain he feels in his left hand from one of the boys stomping on it.
