The Brooklyn basement is the setting for Oona and Dale's 1982 New Year's Eve party. It is a mirror walled room filled with youthful exuberance, loud music, and eccentrically dressed teenagers. Oona thinks about the night spent there throughout the novel when she is feeling nostalgic or craving normalcy. The basement is the last space Oona is in before leaping in time.
