Summary
In Part 8 Oona leapt to 2017. She was relieved to find herself in her Park Slope brownstone with Kenzie and Madeleine. Oona embraced Kenzie with ferocity and was delighted to hear him call her Mom. Her glee subsided when she realized Madeleine was sick. Without asking the diagnosis, Oona could tell that her mother was dying from cancer. Kenzie had helped Madeleine gussy up for the New Year's Eve celebration but makeup could not hide her sallow cheeks and feeble breathing. Oona told Madeleine how much she loved her, valued the lessons she taught, and the vibrancy she added to Oona’s life.
Oona spent the year anticipating and then grieving her mother's death. Losing Madeleine crushed Oona. She was comforted by the thought of being able to see her mother again on future leaps that...
