Summary
In Part 1, Oona Lockhart was at a New Year's Eve party in 1983, on the verge of turning 19. The crowded, Brooklyn basement was walled with mirrors and packed with teenagers. Oona checked her watch and looked up to see Dale, her boyfriend, sauntering over. They sifted through vinyl records but a crushing thud interrupted their flirty banter. Upstairs they found their band member, Corey, had broken a coffee table. While cleaning up the mess Dale and Oona fooled around. They recalled the time Oona's mother had walked in on them and offered to loan Oona Joy of Sex. A single mother after Oona's father died, her liberal parenting methods left Oona with a desire for more boundaries. Dale suggested they slip away from the party to be alone.
