Summary
When Emma gets to her parents', she realizes she is “Home. Free” (192). She lies in bed awake all night. In the morning, she removes her engagement ring, and goes to Marie’s house.
Emma spends the morning with Marie. When she tells Marie what happened with Sam, and her confusion over Jesse, Marie offers her opinion. She does not think Emma is “trying to figure out” who she wants to be with (200). She thinks Emma is trying to choose between the person she is with Jesse and the person she is with Sam (200). Her words move Emma.
