Summary
In Chapter 29, Kali and Muthu drink while talking to Katthayi and Mandayan. Mandayan laments the coming of his third child, and Kali suggests he give it to him and Ponna. Mandayan agrees, but Katthayi does not like the idea. Very drunk, Kali falls into a stupor and mutters how much he wants a child.
In Chapter 30, Ponna feels lost and tossed about by the festival crowd. She feels increasingly disoriented by the lack of unfamiliar faces, though she is enamored by the sea of men and their dancing bodies. A man comes up next to her and touches her, but his touch reminds her of Kali which distresses her. She decides this man is not her god for the day. She feels anxious around the men and tries to focus on the play she is watching.
