Summary
In Chapter 15, Kali thinks again of his Uncle Nallayyan's visit to the barnyard. Uncle Nallayyan is comfortable spending some time on the farm and the rest in the village, unworried about the opinions of the community. After his uncle cut his hair, the village scorned him. Uncle Nallayyan does not care what they say, and encourages Kali to let go of the village's expectations. Later on, Kali tells Ponna their mothers want her to go to the eighteenth day of the festival. She says she will go if he wants her to get pregnant by another man, though she is not happy with the idea.
In Chapter 16, Kali is disturbed remembering Ponna's response. He did not want her to agree to going to the festival. The narrative then moves behind Ponna's point of view. She decides if she needs a child to receive...
