Summary

Chapter 28 is narrated by Knox. As Maeve drives, Knox reads the file that deals with the death of Andrew Lawton, Phoebe’s father. He reads that on the day Andrew was killed, Lance Weber had brought Brandon, then 13, to work with him. Even though Brandon had been told to stay away from the equipment, one of the workers said that Brandon had operated the controls on a forklift for about five minutes. It was that same forklift that jammed and caused Andrew’s death. Knox believes this was the reason Phoebe hated Brandon enough to kill him. Maeve, however, believes that Phoebe truly did not know anything about what was going to happen to Brandon.

At that time, Knox registers their surroundings and realizes that they have followed Jared to Talia’s Restaurant.
