Point of View
One of Us Is Lying is told from the first person point of view of the four different students who are accused of Simon’s murder. Addy, Nate, Bronwyn, and Cooper narrate their stories as they go through the investigation of Simon’s death. These different points of view are important because the novel is a coming of age story for all of the main characters. If the story were told from any other point of view there would be no way to monitor the emotional changes in each of the students. The shared narration also allows the reader to feel close to each of the main characters. Because each character speaks for himself, the reader feels as if he knows each of them. Each character gets equal emphasis as they change in their opinions of themselves and each other.
