Point of View

This story is told from multiple points of view. The majority of the novel is told from the point of view of three first-person narrators. Addy, Nate, and Phoebe, main characters in the novel all serve as first-person narrators. The chapters each character narrates are labeled with their names so the reader can distinguish who is narrating. In Phoebe’s first section of narration, for instance, Phoebe reports: “I hunch lower in my seat, wishing I’d thought to wear a hoodie even though it’s eighty degrees outside and the Eastland High School auditorium doesn’t have AC” (13). Phoebe, along with the other two first-person narrators refers to himself as “I” or “me” the first-person pronouns.
