Summary
In Chapter 29, narrated by Nate on July 19, Nate’s father comes to visit him at his house. Patrick asks if there is a private place where they can talk which makes Nate suspect the worst. Patrick tells Nate that a recently deceased relative left him some land. He is selling it and believes that he will make a couple hundred thousand from the sale. He explains that once the sale is settled, he is going to give Nate half of that money.
Patrick tells Nate that he realizes Nate did not really have a childhood because of the way his parents lived. He credits Nate with having accomplished everything he has accomplished on his own. Nate tries to force himself to say something, but all he can do is hug his father. Nate hugs his father not just because of the money...
