Point of View

The point of view of this novel is third person omniscient. While Silver is the primary narrator of the novel, the author moves into the minds of Silver’s ex-wife and daughter as well, revealing to the reader some things that Silver is not privy to but which are important to the plot.

The point of view of this novel works well because it allows the reader to develop a close relationship to Silver, to see his thoughts and emotions, as well as hear the oddities of his thinking that injects so much humor into a plot that might otherwise be overwhelmingly dark. By making the point of view omniscient, the author also allows the reader some insight into Silver’s ex-wife, Denise, and his daughter, Casey, as well.
