Summary
In Chapter 8, Isaiah hosts an Easter Sunday brunch and invites August and her roommates. August wishes that Jane could be with her during the chaotic and alcohol fueled party. She misses Jane and “wants to be the person across the crowd who belongs to someone” (189). August decides to call Jane and put the call on speakerphone before tucking the phone into her shirt so she can simulate Jane’s presence at the party. When the rest of the party goers realize that August is on the phone with Jane, they decide to bring the party to the subway so Jane can participate. On the train, August kisses Jane without the pretense of reenacting a moment from the past. The taste of sesame paste on August’s mouth jogs Jane’s memory and she realizes that her name is Biyu Su and grew...
