Positano, Italy
The majority of One Italian Summer takes place in Positano, a village on Italy’s Amalfi Coast. Carol first visits Positano as a girl with her parents, then again alone as a young mother. She dreams of someday revisiting the place that was so crucial to her personal development but sadly passes away before that is possible. Travelling to Positano represents an opportunity for Katy to better understand both herself and her mother.
Culver City, U.S.A.
Katy lives in Culver City, California with Eric. Katy often complains in the novel about how stifling Culver City feels, with the limited restaurants and spots she and Eric frequent. By the end of the novel, however, Katy looks forward to returning home and realizes she loves the familiarity of it.
