Katy Silver
Katy Silver is the protagonist of One Italian Summer. Katy is a 30-year-old copywriter who lives in Culver City with her husband, Eric. She is close to both her parents, Chuck and Carol, but has a special bond with her mother.
When the novel begins, Katy is grieving her mother’s death. Acting as Carol’s caregiver was not an easy job, especially since Katy was used to being taken care of by her mother. The most impactful part of Carol’s death for Katy is the realization that time is slipping away. Determined to make the most of her life, Katy decides to travel to Positano alone. At first, she is fearful and guilty over leaving Eric. As the novel progresses, however, Katy starts prioritizing herself and her needs. By doing so, Katy relearns how to make decisions for herself, without her mother’s guidance.
