Summary
Katy stumbles onto the hotel terrace in Chapter 16. Adam is there. He helps her get some water from the bar. He invites her to sit on some lounge chairs. Katy tells him she saw her mother. Adam realizes that Katy is processing her grief. Catching her staring at him, Adam asks if he may kiss her. Katy consents. They kiss. Katy suddenly remembers Eric and pushes Adam away. Adam reassures her that he will see her in the morning for breakfast. There is no need to be embarrassed. He calls Eric a “fucking idiot” for not following her to Italy (107).
In Chapter 17, Katy has trouble sleeping. She remembers a week she spent home alone while Eric was away for work. It was one of the happiest weeks of her life.
