Seattle
Seattle is the hometown of Charlotte and her family and where she graduates high school. It is also where she plans to go to college once she returns from the writing workshop in Italy. At the beginning of the novel, Charlotte’s time in Seattle shows her difficult relationship with her parents and desires to get out and make something out of herself. When she returns to Seattle after Luca’s assault, Charlotte is forced to overcome the feeling that she no longer belongs in the writing world and the guilt she feels toward herself. Ultimately, Seattle becomes a stepping stone in Charlotte’s life that helps her shift back to Venice, her research of Isabella’s life, and her own writing.
