Charlotte Hodges
Charlotte Hodges is the main character of the story and the person that the narrator follows throughout. She is a high school graduate who loves writing and longs to write her own novel. She earns a scholarship to Luca’s writing workshop in Italy but later thinks that he only chose her because he knew he could control her once she was in Italy. Early on, Charlotte is very naive but matures more throughout her time in Italy and through her research on her historical idol, Isabella. Charlotte also comes to love Dante and finds much of her happiness through working alongside him. Charlotte also struggles with extreme guilt and hates arguing due to her parent’s problems, her dad’s abandonment, and her own struggles with anxiety. This causes her to try and avoid any kind of confrontation she can, even leading her to blame herself...
